How does the image ‘bash’ people? By stating a fact? Because it is. It’s been proven. The truth is what it is.
The image nor the comments say anything about religious people being less helpful than non-religious people. If this image is ‘bashing’ anything, it’s praying, and I whole-heartedly agree.
Sure, people can pray if they want to, but prayer is more for their own benefit for the most part. Their prayers do not do anything substantial for the people suffering. Instead, what the belief in prayer does is contribute to this deluded belief that praying counts as actually taking action. A lot of people do believe prayer equals doing something to help.
For example, my grandmother was telling me that she was going to this church prayer service to ‘help’ Japan. I have no doubt that she an those people sincerely believe that by praying, they are in some way helping. The time they spend praying could better be spent going out and doing other, more beneficial things.
I understand that not everyone can do anything. Some people really cannot do anything to help. I understand, I really do. But throw ‘prayer’ into the mix and it makes people feel better about themselves thinking that they’ve done something good since obviously, god cares about their prayers so much, amirite.
So no, I don’t think it’s bullshit to point out that praying does not work if it might mean that more people might consider it for a second and do something else if they can.Thank you for assuming that because I pray, I do little else useful. Can I say that instead of wasting time doing this kind of signs, it would be better linking to donation sites or… you know. Suggesting something useful. Instead of telling us what we believe is useless. I do what I can, and other than that I pray and I’m sick and tired of seeing people telling “go doing something useful instead”. I’m not belitting what you do, I’d like the same respect.
Thank you for completely missing the point. Only not because I’m a sarcastic dick. :D
Thank you for assuming there is only one point and that people cannot view things by different povs and cannot be offended never ever.
Or not. Because I’m a sarcastic dick as much as you. :)
The only one assuming anything is you by saying that this image, or my comment says anything like ‘people who pray are useless and don’t do anything else’. Also for implying that the people making these signs do not do anything else, which is, hey!, exactly what you were whining about people doing with regards to you and prayer! :D
I honestly don’t see why you automatically think denouncing the act of praying is an attack to you, as a person, but my guess is that your well is poisoned enough.
This sign in particular, is more productive and useful than those ‘Pray for Japan’ signs because the later encourages a self-serving non-action, while this one aims to rebuke it.
