Inktober starts next week! Thirty-one days, thirty-one ink drawings. Are you ready?!
1) Make a drawing in ink (you can do a pencil under-drawing if you want).
2) Post it on tumblr (or Instagram, twitter, facebook, flickr, Pinterest or just pin it on your wall.)
3) Hashtag it with #inktober
4) Repeat (you can do it daily, like me, or go the half-marathon route and post every other day, or just do the 5K and post once a week. What ever you decide, just be consistent with it. INKtober is about growing and improving and forming positive habits, so the more you’re consistent the better.)

SWEET BABY CHICK IT HAS RETURNED
Oh look, it’s the comic that spawned the Clintguin fic. :))
Wow, I think it’s pretty amazing how this video can be totally emotionally charged given such a simple concept and on top of that, the unabashed product placement doesn’t take away from it at all.
As someone in advertising, I really appreciate this video and commend whoever’s brainchild this is. Because it was most likely conceived by Absolut’s creative agency.
I do it all the time! There was a point in time I really REALLY hated Dean Winchester (Supernatural) because he was just being the absolute worst, but I still shipped Dean/Cas stronger than the sun.
I ship Science Bros (MCU Avengers) despite my loathing of Tony Stark (and even RDJ) because I thought they were incredibly compatible and cute together!
In this case, much like Dean/Cas actually, I ship NitoRin because I love Nitori and I think his devotion to Rin is beautiful. I want him to be happy and my interpretation is that Rin makes him happy. And helping Rin makes him happy. So I ship it because I believe in him and I believe his ~love~ can make it work and break through Sharkteeth’s stupid dumbassery. o/
Fair enough. :)
I suppose it isn’t fair that just because most of the time, the people slagging of Nitori are people who ship RinHaru, doesn’t mean this is true of all people of that ship and that it isn’t necessarily correlated. I’ll remove it.
But just to point out, there’s nothing wrong with shipping spares. Shipping isn’t something you need to take so seriously as to say you need a ~super legit~ reason to ship someone. :3
Without Rei’s “sacrifice”, as much as it hurt him at the time, they wouldn’t have gotten to the point they were in the epilogue and Rei will get his chance again to swim with them in a relay, as a team. Otherwise that might not have been possible. I’m not saying he did what he did for selfish reasons, but he ultimately did get something out of it too. (I also think it strengthened his relationship with the other guys, but ymmv.)
As for Rin (eho’s probably only 16, not 17 unless my maths is wrong), yes, he’s selfish and arrogant, always has been, but at the same time he’s really insecure and possibly suffering from depression. He’s got serious emotional garbage ad saying it’s ALL HIS OWN FAULT (sure, he makes it worse for himself, but) is kind of harsh. He’s not bad kid, but he has a lot to learn. He doesn’t quite think his decisions through and suffers from it in the end. Tsun’d so hard he hurt himself. Teenagers.
You’re basically just backing up my point when I said Rei really didn’t get a choice in the matter, did he. And like the perf little
butterfly friend he is, he handles it with such wonderful maturity, he deserves all the props for that.
Haru was selfish as well. With a very emotional trigger to cause such selfishness, sure, but selfish nonetheless. They all were. It’s like they completely disregarded Rei’s feelings and focus on Rin’s crap. Because it was crap. The only thing ‘stopping them from being a real team’ is Rin’s inability to be straightforward with what he wanted. Which is infuriating because what he wanted is the same thing they’ve been offering him since day one that he was just too bullheaded to accept for no good reason at all.
He doesn’t ‘get something out of it’ if that something is supposed to be the friendship they keep assuring him is real and genuine. He should have gotten that regardless. Is he or is he not his own person and not a replacement for Rin? If it is the former that he should not have to be a martyr to recieve the fruits of their friendship and hard work.
Why would it not have been possible? Their feelings for Rin should not overlap their feelings for Rei if they really are the sort of friends they claim. And again, Rin is the only one causing all this.
This is all unintentional emotional blackmail towards Rei. You are basically saying in order for him to get the respect his friends ought give him, he needs to put himself on the line for someone he doesn’t owe anything to.
As for Rin, he is insecure but any he is not depressed. I don’t know if you mean to say he has emotional baggage instead of garbage but I’ll assume you mean baggage and to that I say, any baggage he has is that of his own making. It’s ridiculous and unreasonable! Everyone around him constantly tries to help him realize that he has no reason to be insecure or try to prove him wrong.
It is not harsh to point out that everyone has already done what they can to help him and that he should try to solve his own damn issues himself. But he can’t even admit that he does have issues. He’s too proud to. And he really needs to learn to grow up and learn to deal with it. He’s 16 (tumblr usually says 17, but 16 or 17 doesn’t make much difference to my point), he’s old enough for us to be able to expect some sort of maturity from him.
I’m going to go ahead and quote other people’s posts because they summarize it better than I do:
Why was it that Rin was the one who got to swim in it? Was that really necessary for him to overcome his personal angst? He could swim with them later on. Why the race? There was minimal character development for him, really. He knew what he was swimming for all along and was simply denying it until he was forced to come to terms with it, thanks to Haru.
Rin could have gotten that same character development by watching their team swim together. It would have been a true showcase of friendship and teamwork. He could have saw the same “sight” without actually taking Rei’s place. Furthermore he could have shown them support by cheering them on, which would have shown how he had matured through the whole deal. He didn’t deserve to swim with them after everything.
Reading comprehension, anon of short attention spans. He asked for the SAMEZUKA spot. He stole that from a Samezuka swimmer who did his part and qualified the team.
If you actually read my post, I actually even go into this long spiel about how we’re desensitized to the dickery Rin pulled there just because said Samezuka swimmer is not a character we can empathize with????? IT IS LITERALLY THE NEXT SENTENCE.
ETA: please read the Rei section of my post because I call bullshit on your ‘Rei got something out of it’ comment.
